Bridging Sectors with a One Health Approach: The Role of Veterinarians in Disease Prevention and Control

This policy paper was developed by the Pathology Network (PN) in collaboration with the Standing Committee on One Health (SCOH) and endorsed by the World Veterinary Association (WVA) and the Federation of Veterinarians of Europe (FVE). This document sets a new direction for strengthening veterinarians' role in safeguarding global health.


Key action points include:

1. Investing in the veterinary workforce by strengthening curricula.
2.
Promoting interdisciplinary training programs and a One Health Approach (OHA).
3.
Advocating for increased resources for research and biosecurity measures.
4.
Applying the Berlin Principles to build a more resilient and effective health system.
5.
Including veterinarians in decision-making processes to ensure informed policies.

 

By addressing zoonotic diseases and food safety, the paper emphasizes the vital role veterinarians play in tackling global health challenges and calls for coordinated efforts to create a safer, healthier future.
